Application Description

This Three Kingdoms-themed chess game offers diverse gameplay modes, allowing players to conquer levels, challenge heroes, and hone their endgame strategies. Xiangqi, the Chinese chess game, is a two-player contest with a rich history. Its simple yet engaging design has made it a popular pastime.

The Chess Pieces:

Thirty-two pieces are divided into red and black armies of sixteen each. Seven piece types exist in each army:

  • Red Army: 1 General (帥), 2 Chariots (俥), 2 Horses (傌), 2 Cannons (炮), 2 Elephants (相), 2 Advisors (仕), 5 Soldiers (卒)
  • Black Army: 1 General (將), 2 Chariots (俥), 2 Horses (傌), 2 Cannons (炮), 2 Elephants (象), 2 Advisors (士), 5 Soldiers (卒)

General (帥/將): The leader of each army. Confined to the nine palace squares, it moves one square horizontally or vertically. Direct confrontation between opposing Generals results in a stalemate.

Advisor (仕/士): Also restricted to the nine palace squares, it moves one square diagonally.

Elephant (相/象): Moves two squares diagonally, but cannot cross the "river" (the central horizontal line) or jump over another piece.

Chariot (俥): The most powerful piece, moving any number of squares horizontally or vertically, unimpeded by other pieces.

Cannon (炮): Moves like a Chariot, but captures by leaping over a single piece (ally or enemy) to land on its target.

Horse (傌): Moves in an "L" shape – one square horizontally or vertically, then one square diagonally. It cannot jump over pieces.

Soldier/Pawn (卒/兵): Moves one square forward. After crossing the "river," it can also move one square laterally.

Gameplay:

Players alternate turns, aiming to "checkmate" the opponent's General. Red moves first. The game ends when one player checkmates the other or a draw is declared. Xiangqi enhances strategic thinking through complex interactions of offense, defense, and overall strategy.
