Application Description

Button Mapper is a versatile tool that allows you to remap the hardware buttons on your device to perform a wide array of custom actions, enhancing your user experience. With this app, you can easily assign any app, shortcut, or specific action to your volume buttons and other hardware buttons. Whether you prefer a single press, double press, or a long press, Button Mapper caters to your needs, making your device more intuitive and tailored to your usage patterns.

This app supports remapping for most physical or capacitive keys, including volume buttons, some assist buttons, and capacitive home, back, and recent apps keys. Additionally, Button Mapper can remap buttons on various peripheral devices such as gamepads and remotes. While root access is not necessary for most functions, certain advanced features might require an adb command from a connected PC if your device is not rooted. Note that Button Mapper does not function when the screen is off, unless your device is rooted or you use an adb command.

Troubleshooting

  • Ensure Button Mapper accessibility service is enabled and allowed to run in the background

  • The options shown in the app depend on the buttons available on your phone. Not all phones have home, back, and recents buttons!

Button Mapper leverages Accessibility services to detect when physical or capacitive buttons are pressed, allowing for their remapping to custom actions that meet your specific needs. Rest assured, the app does not monitor your keystrokes. Additionally, Button Mapper does not collect or share any personal information, ensuring your privacy is respected and maintained.

The app also uses the Device Administrator permission (BIND_DEVICE_ADMIN) to lock the screen if the "Turn screen off" action is selected. If you wish to remove this permission, you can do so by opening Button Mapper, clicking on the menu (three dots in the upper right corner), and selecting "Uninstall."
