Valve To Announce New Update Schedule

Deadlock Update Schedule Shifting in 2025

Valve has announced a change to its update strategy for Deadlock in 2025, prioritizing larger, less frequent patches over the consistent bi-weekly updates of 2024. This decision, communicated via the official Deadlock Discord, stems from challenges in maintaining the previous update cadence while effectively iterating on internal changes and allowing sufficient time for external feedback.

While this may disappoint some players anticipating constant updates, Valve assures that future updates will be more substantial and event-driven. The recent winter update, featuring unique gameplay alterations, serves as a preview of this approach. This shift allows for more comprehensive changes and a more impactful player experience.

Deadlock, a free-to-play, third-person hero shooter, launched on Steam earlier in 2024 following online leaks. It has quickly gained traction, distinguishing itself with its steampunk aesthetic and polished gameplay, even amidst competition from titles like Marvel Rivals. The game currently boasts 22 playable characters, expandable to 30 in Hero Labs mode, and a unique anti-cheat system.

The shift in update frequency doesn't signal a slowdown in development. Valve developer Yoshi confirmed that major patches will be less frequent but larger in scope, functioning more like events. Hotfixes will continue as needed. The company anticipates further development and the introduction of limited-time events and game modes, mirroring common live service models.

While an official release date remains unannounced, 2025 promises further news and updates for Deadlock.
