Critical Role Video Game Announcement Could Arrive 'Any Day,' Travis Willingham Confirms

by Aurora Apr 24,2025

Excitement is brewing in the Dungeons & Dragons community as Critical Role, the beloved show, gears up to unveil its first major video game. In a recent interview with Business Insider, CEO and star Travis Willingham hinted that an announcement could be imminent, stating it could happen "any day."

While specifics about the video game's title and its connection to the Critical Role universe remain under wraps, Willingham assured fans that the development team is diligently working on the project. He expressed enthusiasm about the interactive nature of the game, saying, "They'll actually be getting their hands on the stick and controlling the outcome of the story, changing what might be possible from not just some of their favorite characters, but new offerings in the world of Exandria."

Willingham, a co-founder of Critical Role alongside other notable voice actors such as Liam O'Brien, Marisha Ray, Sam Riegel, Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, and Matthew Mercer, has seen the show evolve into a vast universe. One of its most successful ventures is the Amazon Prime Video series, Critical Role: The Legend of Vox Machina.

The upcoming video game will complement Critical Role's other projects, though it won't necessarily be a direct tie-in. In a December 2024 interview with Rolling Stone, Willingham shared that the team was in the "active pursuit" of creating a Critical Role video game spinoff, and nearing the end of a multi-year development journey. It remains to be seen whether the game will explore one of the group’s existing campaigns or introduce an entirely new story within the Exandria world.

Originally, the team anticipated making an announcement by the end of 2024 or early 2025. As we're now into the third month of 2025, the wait for news on the video game seems to be nearing its end.

Reflecting on the broader gaming industry, Willingham noted to Rolling Stone, “Those collaborations we’ve had with various partners have been little toe dips in the pool just to see how it feels. You know, there’s a lot of upheaval in the interactive space right now. And we’ve seen studios sort of bear and weather those strains. It’s trying to become smarter about it and find out how we might fit into that larger ecosystem.”

While no release date for the Critical Role video game has been set, fans can stay updated by checking out the first details on The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4 in the meantime.
