Application Description

MAME4droid, crafted by David Valdeita (Seleuco), is an Android adaptation of iMAME4all, originally designed for jailbroken iPhones and iPads. This emulator is rooted in the work of Nicola Salmoria and the MAME Team, specifically utilizing the MAME 0.37b5 version, and further builds on the GP2X, WIZ MAME4ALL 2.5 by Franxis. MAME4droid not only emulates games supported by MAME 0.37b5 but also incorporates additional games from newer MAME versions, covering over 2000 different romsets. However, due to the extensive range of games, performance can vary; some may run smoothly while others might not be compatible at all. Users should be aware that requesting support for specific games is not feasible.

For users with older devices, achieving optimal performance may be challenging. To improve gameplay, consider lowering sound quality or turning it off entirely, using 8-bit depth, underclocking the CPU and sound CPUs, and disabling animations for sticks and buttons as well as smooth scaling.

After installation, place your MAME-compatible zipped ROMs in the /sdcard/ROMs/MAME4all/roms directory. MAME4droid exclusively uses MAME4droid and iMAME4all ROMs from the '0.37b5' and 'GP2X, WIZ 0.37b11' sets. For converting ROMs from other MAME versions to those compatible with this emulator, use the "clrmame.dat" file provided in /sdcard/ROMs/MAME4all/ along with the ClrMAME Pro utility, available at http://mamedev.emulab.it/clrmamepro/.

Note that MAME4droid does not support save states, a feature absent in the MAME version it's based on. For the latest updates, source code, and more information, visit the official page at http://code.google.com/p/imame4all/.

MAME4droid is compatible with Android devices running version 2.1 and above, offering native support for Android Honeycomb tablets with 2D hardware acceleration. Features include autorotation, hardware key remapping, a customizable touch controller, smooth image rendering, various overlay filters, and options for digital or analog touch control. Users can also enjoy animated touch stick or DPAD, support for iON's iCade and iCP controllers, Wiimote functionality via the WiiController Market app, and the ability to show up to six buttons. Additional options allow for adjustments in video aspect ratio, scaling, rotation, CPU, and audio clock settings.

For detailed information on the MAME license, please refer to the end of this document or visit http://www.mame.net and http://www.mamedev.com. The MAME license stipulates that redistributions may not be sold or used commercially, and any modifications must include the complete source code.
