Stellar Blade PC Release Set for 2025
Exciting news for fans of Stellar Blade: following its exclusive launch on PlayStation in April, the game is now set to make its way to PC in 2025! Dive into the details below to discover more about this upcoming release.
Stellar Blade is Coming to PC in 2025
The buzz around a PC version of Stellar Blade started in June when SHIFT UP's CFO, Jaewoo Ahn, hinted at the possibility during the company's IPO press conference. Today, SHIFT UP officially confirmed that this sci-fi action game will indeed be available on PC in 2025. This announcement followed questions from investors about "platform expansion" during SHIFT UP's latest financial earnings report. The developers cited the rising popularity of PC gaming, especially on platforms like Steam, and the global success of similar titles such as Black Myth: Wukong, as key factors for their decision.
While a specific release date hasn't been set, SHIFT UP has outlined a strategy to keep the game's popularity thriving until its PC launch. This includes a collaboration DLC with Platinum Game's NieR: Automata and the introduction of a Photo Mode, both set to launch on November 20, alongside other marketing efforts.
Stellar Blade will join the ranks of other high-profile PlayStation exclusives transitioning to PC, such as God of War Ragnarök and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, expanding its audience. However, this move raises concerns about potential requirements for PC players.
As a title published by Sony Interactive Entertainment and with SHIFT UP becoming a second-party developer for Sony in 2023, there's a possibility that Stellar Blade might require players to link their Steam accounts to a PlayStation Network (PSN) account. This practice could exclude players from over 170 countries without PSN access from enjoying the game on PC.
Sony's rationale for this requirement, as explained by Chief Financial Officer Hiroki Totoki, is to ensure a safe gaming environment, particularly for live-service games. Yet, this justification is questioned when applied to single-player titles like the Horizon series.
It's still unclear whether Stellar Blade will necessitate a PSN account for PC players. Given that SHIFT UP retains ownership of the IP, there's hope that this might not be a requirement. However, if it is, it could impact the game's PC sales, which SHIFT UP aims to surpass those on consoles.
