"Spider-Verse Star Yet to Record Lines"

by Julian Apr 27,2025

Fans eagerly awaiting the next installment of the Spider-Verse saga might need to temper their excitement, as Jharrel Jerome, star of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, has confirmed that production for the third film, Beyond the Spider-Verse, has yet to commence. Jerome revealed to Decider that he hasn't even begun recording lines for the anticipated sequel, indicating that the project is still in the planning stages with many aspects "being figured out." This news might not come as a surprise to many, considering the second film, released in 2023, followed five years after the original.

"No, I wish," Jerome stated when questioned about the start of production. "We haven’t started up yet. A lot of things being figured out, but good things."

While Jerome's role in the second film was relatively minor, he is poised to take on a significant part in the third installment. Spoiler alert for the ending of Across the Spider-Verse: Jerome is set to play the main antagonist, portraying Miles G. Morales from Earth-42, a version of Miles who did not become Spider-Man but instead became the Prowler. This alternate Miles had a less fortunate life; the radioactive spider meant for him ended up in the protagonist's reality, leading to a different path where, after the death of his universe's Peter Parker, he turned to villainy in a New York ruled by supervillains.

The clash between this darker Miles and the Miles who became Spider-Man will likely be a central theme in Beyond the Spider-Verse. However, fans will have to wait patiently, as the earliest expected release date according to Deadline is 2026, though maintaining the pace of the previous film's release could push it to 2028.
