Sony Pulls First-Party PS3 Games Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 From PS5 and PS4 as Part of Big PS Plus Clearout

by Max Apr 28,2025

Next month, PlayStation Plus will see the departure of 22 games from its library, including fan favorites like Grand Theft Auto 5, Payday 2: Crimewave Edition, and the last playable versions of first-party titles Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2. This significant update to the service, scheduled for May 20, 2025, will affect both Extra and Premium members who have access to a vast catalog of current and classic games through PlayStation Plus.

PlayStation Plus is a comprehensive online gaming service for PlayStation platforms, offering monthly free games, limited-time trials, online multiplayer, and exclusive member discounts. The service is particularly valuable for Extra and Premium members, who enjoy access to hundreds of games, making it a go-to destination for avid gamers.

As highlighted by Push Square, the removal of these 22 titles includes two notable first-party Sony PS3 games, Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2, which are exiting the PS Plus Premium library. This move is particularly significant because these games are no longer available for purchase on the PlayStation Store, making the PS Plus Premium streaming service the last resort for players without access to a working PS3 and the original games.

The Resistance series, developed by Insomniac Games, is known for its alternate history first-person shooter gameplay. Following their success with the Ratchet and Clank series, Insomniac released three Resistance games for the PS3 before shifting focus to other projects like Marvel’s Spider-Man and new Ratchet and Clank titles. The removal of Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 from PS Plus comes less than a year after their addition to the library at the end of 2024.

While it's rare for Sony to remove first-party titles from its service, it's not unprecedented. The unexpected removal of both Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon: Forbidden West in August 2024 set a precedent, though those games remained available for purchase. In contrast, Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 will no longer be accessible on modern consoles once they leave PS Plus.

It's worth noting that Resistance 3 and Resistance: Retribution will continue to be available on the service. Additionally, the PS4 game InFamous: Second Son is also set to leave PS Plus, adding to the list of departing titles.

Insomniac's Resistance series has been on hiatus for some time. In February, Insomniac founder and outgoing president Ted Price disclosed efforts to develop Resistance 4, which unfortunately did not come to fruition. Like Guerrilla's Killzone series, Resistance has been sidelined in favor of other projects.
