Exciting news for fans of the iconic franchise: Power Rangers is reportedly gearing up for a thrilling live-action series revival on Disney+. According to The Wrap, the dynamic duo behind Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz, are in discussions to helm this new project as writers, showrunners, and producers, collaborating with Disney+ and 20th Century TV.

Hasbro, the current owner of the Power Rangers brand, aims to breathe fresh life into the series, crafting a narrative that appeals to a new generation while retaining the loyalty of long-time fans. This strategic move underscores Hasbro's commitment to revitalizing the franchise, which has been a cornerstone of children's entertainment since its inception in the '90s.

The original The Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers series captivated audiences with its portrayal of teenage superheroes and their impressive mechs, capable of combining into a formidable giant mech. This nostalgia-laden show remains a cultural touchstone for many who grew up in the '90s.

In 2018, Hasbro acquired the Power Rangers franchise from Saban Properties in a landmark deal valued at $522 million. At the time, Hasbro's chairman and CEO, Brian Goldner, highlighted the brand's "tremendous upside potential" and envisioned expanding its reach across toys, games, consumer products, digital gaming, entertainment, and global retail markets.

This acquisition followed the unsuccessful 2017 movie reboot, which attempted a grittier take on the Power Rangers and aimed to kickstart a series of sequels. However, due to lackluster box office results, the sequel plans were abandoned, leading Saban to sell the rights to Hasbro shortly thereafter.

In addition to the Power Rangers project, Hasbro is also pushing forward with other ambitious ventures. These include a live-action Dungeons & Dragons series titled The Forgotten Realms in development at Netflix, an animated Magic: The Gathering series also at Netflix, and plans for a Magic: The Gathering cinematic universe. These projects reflect Hasbro's broader strategy to leverage its iconic brands across various media platforms.
