Pokemon GO Reveals 2025 Lunar New Year Event

Niantic has officially unveiled the details for the Pokemon GO Lunar New Year 2025 event, scheduled to run from January 29 to February 2. This celebration promises a host of exciting opportunities for players to snag Lucky Pokemon, Shiny Pokemon, and other rewarding bonuses, mirroring the engaging format of the ongoing Fashion Week event. Players can enhance their experience by completing Lunar New Year-themed Field Research tasks, which will offer Stardust, XP, and encounters with event-specific Pokemon. Additionally, a Paid Timed Research option is available for $2, providing even more rewards, including two Lucky Eggs and an incubator.

As Pokemon GO celebrates its ninth anniversary in 2025, the AR game is set to introduce several new events and updates, leading up to the much-anticipated summer and Pokemon GO Fest. Among these is the Pokemon GO Tour: Unova, slated for Los Angeles and New Taipei City from February 21 to 23, followed by a global event in March. The Lunar New Year event, occurring just before Unova, presents a prime chance for players to expand their Pokemon collections.

The event will kick off on Wednesday, January 29, at 10:00 a.m. and conclude on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. local time. During this period, players will enjoy an increased likelihood of obtaining Lucky Pokemon through trades and becoming Lucky Friends, which further boosts the chances of encountering Lucky Pokemon. In the wild, you'll spot Ekans, Onix, Snivy, Darumaka, Dunsparce, Gyarados, and Dratini more frequently, with a higher chance of encountering their Shiny variants. Additionally, 2 km Eggs will yield Makuhita, Nosepass, Meditite, Duskull, and Skorupi while the event is active.

Alongside these encounters, Lunar New Year-themed Field Research and Timed Research tasks, as well as Routes, will reward players with Stardust, XP, Zygarde Cells, and encounters with event-themed Pokemon. Participants in Routes can also collect Zygarde Cells. For those eager for additional rewards, the event-exclusive Paid Timed Research for $2 offers encounters with Ekans and Nosepass, along with two Lucky Eggs and an incubator. It's crucial for players to claim all Field Research and Timed Research rewards by February 2 at 8:00 p.m. local time to maximize their gains.

Players can also participate in PokeStop Showcases with their Lunar New Year Pokemon to earn additional rewards based on the showcase results, including item bundles. Niantic has also confirmed the availability of an event-themed Collection Challenge, which upon completion, grants extra Stardust for trading. This feature is particularly beneficial for frequent traders, making the Lunar New Year event a must-attend for those looking to enhance their Pokemon GO experience later this month.
