Killzone Composer: Fans Seek Casual, Quick Games

by Carter Mar 27,2025

The beloved Killzone franchise from Sony has been quiet for some time, but the conversation about its potential revival continues to spark interest. In a recent interview with VideoGamer for the PlayStation: The Concert Tour, Killzone composer Joris de Man expressed his hope for the series to make a comeback. "I know that there have been petitions for it," de Man remarked. "I think it's tricky because I can't speak for Guerrilla or anything... I don't know if it will ever happen. I hope it will because I think it is quite an iconic franchise, but I also think it kind of has to take into account the sensitivities and the shift in what people want because it is quite bleak in some ways."

De Man suggested that a remastered collection of Killzone's past entries might be a more viable option than launching a brand-new game. "I think a remastered one would be successful, I don't know if a new game would be as much," he explained. "I don't know if people have moved on from it and want something a bit more casual, a bit more quick." The Killzone series is known for its slower, more deliberate pace and heavy atmosphere, contrasting with faster-paced shooters like Call of Duty. Killzone 2, for instance, was criticized for its input lag, which affected the game's responsiveness on the PlayStation 3.

The franchise's dark, gritty, and often depressing aesthetic has been a defining feature. However, recent comments from Guerrilla, the Sony-owned developer behind Killzone, suggest a shift in focus towards the Horizon series. It's been over a decade since the release of Killzone Shadow Fall, and while the possibility of reviving Killzone or another PlayStation shooter franchise remains appealing to some fans, it seems that Guerrilla has moved on.

Despite these developments, the idea of Killzone's return continues to resonate with a dedicated fanbase. Whether or not it ever materializes, fans can take comfort in knowing that they have at least one more advocate in Joris de Man.
