Dune: Awakening Coming on May 20

No Early Access and No Monthly Subscription

Dune: Awakening's developer, Funcom, has officially announced that the game will fully launch on May 20, bypassing the early access phase. This decision was detailed in their Steam blog post dated March 21, which also shed light on the game's business model, system requirements, and post-launch strategy.

In a departure from the subscription-based model adopted by other MMOs like Final Fantasy XIV, World of Warcraft, and EVE Online, Dune: Awakening will not require a monthly fee. Instead, the game will be supported through free updates that will introduce new content, features, and enhancements. Funcom emphasized their commitment to long-term support, drawing on their experience with live service games like Anarchy Online, celebrating its 25th anniversary next year, and Conan Exiles, which continues to receive regular updates and expansions.

Pre-Orders Live Now and Game Editions Revealed

Following the initial announcement, Funcom opened pre-orders for Dune: Awakening on March 24. The game offers three editions: Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate, each providing unique in-game benefits. Pre-ordering any edition grants players the Terrarium of Muad’Dib, a detailed in-base decoration, and the Sunset Dye Global Swatch, a unique color pattern applicable to weapons, vehicles, and armor.

Opting for the Deluxe or Ultimate edition also offers a 5-day head start, allowing access to the game from May 15. The Deluxe edition includes:

• Season Pass: Access to 4 DLCs, starting with placeables inspired by Arrakis' wildlife, including Shai-Hulud, with the subsequent three DLCs to follow.
• Sardaukar Bator Armor: The formidable armor of the elite Sardaukar forces.
• One copy of the base game.

The Ultimate edition encompasses all Deluxe edition items, plus:
