Bloodborne Remake Rumors Revive After PlayStation 30th Anniversary Trailer Drops

Speculation about Bloodborne is once again swirling among fans after its inclusion in PlayStation’s 30th anniversary video. Dive deeper into the latest buzz surrounding the game and the new PS5 update.

PlayStation 30th Anniversary Ends with a Bang

Ending the Anniversary Trailer with Bloodborne

The beloved PS4 exclusive, Bloodborne, made a striking appearance at the end of PlayStation's 30th anniversary trailer, accompanied by the caption, “It’s about persistence.” While the video also highlighted other iconic games, it's Bloodborne that has sparked fervent discussions about potential remasters or sequels.

Set to an evocative cover of The Cranberries' "Dreams," the trailer showcased PlayStation's legacy with games like Ghost of Tsushima, God of War, and Helldivers 2, each accompanied by thematic captions. For instance, Final Fantasy 7 was tagged with “It’s about fantasy,” and Resident Evil with “It’s about fear.” The closing shot of Bloodborne, however, with its focus on "persistence," ignited fan theories about a possible Bloodborne 2 or a remastered version boasting 60fps and enhanced graphics.

Despite the absence of concrete information both before and after the trailer's release, fans remain hopeful. This isn't the first wave of speculation; a previous post by PlayStation Italia on Instagram featuring iconic game locations also stirred excitement, yet no official news followed. It's worth considering that the trailer's ending might simply celebrate Bloodborne as one of PlayStation’s toughest games, symbolizing the persistence required to conquer it, rather than hinting at new developments.

PS5’s Latest Update Allowing UI Customization

In celebration of its 30th anniversary, Sony rolled out an exciting update for the PS5, featuring a nostalgic PS1 boot-up sequence and customizable themes inspired by past consoles. This update spans themes from the 30th Anniversary to PS1 through PS4, allowing fans to immerse themselves in the rich history of PlayStation.

With the update installed, PS5 users can now tailor their home screen's appearance and sound effects to reflect their favorite past consoles. Navigate to the PS5’s Settings, select “PlayStation 30th Anniversary,” and then choose “Appearance and Sound” to customize your console's look and feel.

The community has warmly received this update, particularly the revival of the PS4’s user interface. However, the limited-time availability has left some fans wishing for a permanent option, with a few even expressing willingness to pay for it. There's speculation that this could be Sony's way of gauging interest in a broader UI customization feature for the PS5 in the future.

Sony Developing a New Handheld Console

The speculation didn't stop with the PS5 update. On December 2, Digital Foundry confirmed Bloomberg's earlier report about Sony working on a new handheld console designed for PS5 games. Bloomberg’s November 25 article highlighted Sony's ambition to enter the portable gaming market, currently dominated by the Nintendo Switch.

John Linneman, Senior Staff Writer at Digital Foundry, mentioned, “We actually heard about this handheld some months ago from a couple of sources specifically. We’re not in the business of leaking things, but it’s interesting that this finally, sort of, started to make its rounds because it just sort of confirmed what we had seen and heard off the record.”

The panelists at Digital Foundry also noted that both Microsoft and Sony venturing into portable gaming makes strategic sense, given the rise of smartphone gaming. They believe that these new handheld devices could complement rather than compete directly with mobile gaming.

While Microsoft has openly expressed interest in a handheld gaming device, Sony remains more reserved. Even with Digital Foundry's confirmation, it could be years before we see these devices from Microsoft and Sony, as they aim to create affordable yet powerful handhelds to challenge Nintendo's dominance.

Meanwhile, Nintendo is already advancing in the portable gaming race. In May 2024, Nintendo's president, Shuntaro Furukawa, announced via Twitter (X) that more details about the successor to the Nintendo Switch would be shared within the current fiscal year.
