Assassin's Creed Shadows Streams Early, a Month Before Release

by Connor Apr 18,2025

Assassin’s Creed Shadows has unfortunately leaked online, with streams showcasing the game appearing a full month before its official release on March 20, 2025. As reported by the GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit, now-deleted social media posts revealed images and gameplay from someone who claimed to have purchased the game from an online marketplace. Additionally, Assassin’s Creed Shadows was spotted in now-removed listings on a U.S. auction site, with one seller reportedly selling multiple copies for $100 each, according to TheGamer.

Despite efforts to curb the leaks, multiple Twitch streams featuring Assassin’s Creed Shadows have surfaced, though they are being swiftly taken down as reported by VGC. IGN has reached out to Ubisoft for comment on this matter.

This leak is a setback for Ubisoft, which has faced numerous challenges with Assassin’s Creed Shadows since its announcement. Earlier this month, Ubisoft emphasized that the game's preorders were strong, comparable to those of Assassin's Creed Odyssey, the franchise's second most successful entry. In its latest financial report, Ubisoft stated that "preorders for the game are tracking solidly."

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot expressed confidence in the project, stating, "Early previews have been positive, praising its narrative and immersive experience, with both characters playing critical roles in the game’s storyline, as well as the quality and complementarity of the gameplay provided by the dual protagonist approach." He further commended the dedication of the Assassin’s Creed team, highlighting their efforts to deliver what he described as "the franchise’s most ambitious entry yet."

Assassin's Creed Shadows, initially slated for a November release, was first delayed to February 14 and then further postponed to the current release date of March 20. The game carries significant expectations as it marks the long-awaited Japan-set entry and the first full Assassin's Creed game since 2020. Ubisoft, facing pressure from recent flops and investor frustration, is banking on Assassin's Creed Shadows to perform well.

The promotional period for the game has been marred by several controversies. The development team had to apologize for inaccuracies in the game's depictions of Japan and for using a historical recreation group's flag without permission. Another issue arose when collectible figure maker PureArts had to remove an Assassin's Creed Shadows statue from sale due to its "insensitive" design.
