Anointing Guide for Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2)

by Sarah Apr 04,2025

In *Path of Exile 2*, enhancing your character's power is key, and anointing is a sophisticated method to do just that. This feature, which becomes available later in the game, allows you to boost your amulets and Waystones using Distilled Emotions. If you're familiar with the original game, think of Distilled Emotions as the new Blight Oils. There are ten types to collect: Despair, Disgust, Envy, Fear, Greed, Guilt, Ire, Isolation, Paranoia, and Suffering.

To acquire Distilled Emotions, you'll primarily delve into Delirium Maps, which reward you with a random selection upon completion. Alternatively, you can engage in currency exchange or explore the trade market. For those looking to refine their collection, the Reforging Bench offers a way to upgrade Distilled Emotions. By combining three of the same type, you can create a higher-tier version of that emotion, giving you more control over your anointing options.

For the more daring players, tackling Simulacrum waves presents another avenue to obtain Distilled Emotions, though it's less efficient and more challenging than Delirium Maps. A robust build is essential for this approach.

How to Anoint Items in Path of Exile 2

Anointing in *Path of Exile 2* currently applies to amulets and Waystones, with potential for more options as the game evolves through Early Access. To anoint an amulet, you'll first need to select a Distilled Emotion to access the Instilling window. The choice of emotion here is flexible. Place your amulet in the central slot, followed by three Distilled Emotions in the bottom slots. The specific emotions needed for the desired anointing effect are detailed in the Passive Skill Tree. Simply hover over a Notable Passive Skill and press alt on a keyboard or R3 on a controller to see the requirements.

The skills you choose to anoint will vary based on your build, and remember, this effect isn't permanent. You can re-anoint your amulet by repeating the process, allowing you to adapt to your evolving build seamlessly. The new skill will override the old one, offering flexibility in your gameplay strategy.

Similarly, you can anoint Waystones to increase their difficulty, which in turn can yield better loot. However, keep in mind that neither amulets nor Waystones can be anointed if they are corrupted.

With these insights, you're now equipped to enhance your amulets and challenge yourself with anointed Waystones in *Path of Exile 2*, tailoring your gameplay to your preferred style and build.

*Path of Exile 2 is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.*
