Polish developer 11 Bit Studios has unveiled a new trailer for their eagerly awaited sci-fi adventure, The Alters, which is inching closer to its release date. In this latest reveal, the studio also took a nostalgic look back at one of their most celebrated titles: the wartime survival game This War of Mine, which catapulted them to international fame over a decade ago.

While This War of Mine is renowned for its somber and bleak atmosphere, The Alters takes a different approach with a narrative that's more passionate and frequently infused with humor. This new game focuses on the trials faced by alternate versions of the protagonist, Jan Dolski. Despite the stark contrast in tone, the developers highlight a deep thematic connection between the two games.

Although the settings and atmospheres of the games are vastly different, both are fundamentally about survival. In This War of Mine, players are thrust into the gritty realities of war within a besieged city, where they must manage resources and face daily struggles to keep their group alive. In contrast, The Alters frames survival as a frantic race against time, requiring players to constantly relocate their mobile base to escape an unrelenting sun that turns everything to dust.

Both titles challenge players to step out of their comfort zones and brave hostile environments in pursuit of scarce resources. The primary distinction between them is in their protagonists: This War of Mine has players guiding a group of ordinary civilians, whereas The Alters introduces a unique team made up of different versions of the main character, Jan Dolski.

The Alters is slated to launch in 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Excitingly, the game will be available on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass from day one, ensuring a wide audience can experience this innovative survival adventure.
